April 6th - I

I

I am at a very interesting / unique point in my life and want to chronicle it on a weekly basis to preserve, or at least have a window back into, my mind and disposition at this age. Basic background, I am 23 years old, have an undergraduate degree, and am almost finished with my masters. I’ve found over the course of the last few years that the internet and social media is a cruel and unforgiving place, providing a screen as protection for those that wish to foster hate and negativity, and never be held accountable. For this reason, I have chosen to make this page anonymous. My wish is for it to become a benevolent and collaborative community. Today is Sunday, April 6th, and this is the first entry I have ever written. 

I find myself thinking often, what does it mean to be a young man? What are the responsibilities that do and do not come with that? And what can I do each and every day to have a colossal positive impact on the world? Loaded questions obviously, but I was reading something the other day that said, “we overestimate what we can do in a day, and underestimate what we can do in 10 years.” Obviously a quote pointing to the importance of patience. What it also said to me however, is how important it is to be the one unafraid to go and do something, regardless of the commitment or timeline that may be associated with that.  My greatest fear is living a life that passes me by, where I am not excited to wake up every single day and chase what I feel true purpose in doing. In a roundabout way, I guess I am saying that I have a colossal fear of living an average, uninterested life. I want to see the world, achieve more than anyone can imagine, continue to feel true lasting love, make this spinning globe a better, happier palace, and uphold my commitments to my family and those I love. The question I wake up every day and face is, how? And where do you start on this journey? Maybe (hopefully) I already have, and chronicling it is merely a manifestation of that. These are the questions we are going to be exploring, and hopefully solving, together . See you all next Sunday.
